Kitesurfing Instructors

Willy Angus Maclean

Willy Angus as mentioned in the introduction was one of the pioneers of kitesurfing in Scotland. He started kitesurfing on big directional boards and two string kites from Naish when the company began supplying kitesurfing equipment to the masses.

His learning curve was tedious as he personally admits due to having to learn the sport without any instruction or indeed even having anyone to emulate. None the less he learnt the hard way and now has a wealth of knowledge that he can pass on to those enthusiastic to learn. He will tell you himself that “what took me six months to learn I can now teach you in six days!”

Trips to the Canary Islands and Cape Town have allowed him to extend his kiteing skills during the Scottish winters. He has been teaching kitesurfing for five years now and is always on the water when it is windy. He is Wild Diamond Kitesurfing’s North sponsored rider and is a level 2 IKO/BKSA instructor.

Marti Larg

Marti was Willy’s kite partner while he was learning and came to kitesurfing from a windsurfing background much as Willy did. Marti is fully in love with kiteing and now prefers it to his first passion, windsurfing. His style is graceful but aggressive as his instruction also is. If you like strong encouragement, he is the coach for you!

Marti is originally from Dundee and is the widest traveled of the crew. A carpenter to trade he has been around the world a number of times and firmly holds Tiree as being the best place in the world to kitesurf. He has chosen the island as his home and has recently married and settled on the island due to the conditions and the people that he met when coming to Tiree on holidays.

Marti is Wild Diamond Kitesurfing’s Airush sponsored rider and is a level 2 IKO/BKSA instructor.
